Apple’s Share of Verizon Smartphone Sales Slips to 45%

Verizon today announced earnings for the second quarter of 2012, providing a first glimpse at Apple’s iPhone performance during the quarter. During the conference call associated with the earnings release, Verizon announced iPhone sales of 2.7 million for the quarter, down from 3.2 million in the prior quarter

In many ways, Verizon has gone about its attempts to acquire more LTE spectrum much more wisely than AT&T did with its failed T-Mobile merger. After all, Verizon is just purchasing spectrum licenses from companies that won’t be able to use them on its own anyway, rather than outright buying a rival wireless carrier. DROID Incredible 4G LTE appears on Verizon site

The HTC DROID Incredible 4G LTE has been outed on Verizon’s “Droid Does” website. The new Incredible is equipped with a 4-inch qHD Super LCD display, a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD slot and an 8-megapixel rear camera — possibly the same one found on HTC’s One-series

Verizon on Wednesday reported earnings for the first quarter that narrowly beat analysts’ expectations. The nation’s top carrier posted a profit of $0.59 per share, up about 16% over the same quarter last year and $0.01 above Wall Street’s consensus.

Wireless data traffic grew 123% in the U.S. last year

As sales of smartphones and tablets reach all time heights , consumers in the United States are streaming more movies, downloading more apps and viewing more websites on their wireless devices. According to a recent report from the CTIA, annual wireless data traffic in the U.S. grew 123% from 388 billion megabytes in 2010 to 866.7 billion megabytes in 2011.
