Code in OS X 10.8.4 Suggests Future Macs Will Offer 802.11ac Gigabit Wi-Fi Support

Code within the latest 10.8.4 beta release of OS X confirms that 802.11ac 5G “Gigabit Wi-Fi” support, which is not offered in OS X 10.8.3, will be offered on Apple’s next generation Macs, reports 9to5Mac . In January, Apple reportedly signed a deal with wireless chip firm Broadcom to bring the high-speed wireless access to its future Mac lineup. 802.11ac offers triple the speeds that are available with the current 802.11n standard, supporting up to 450 Mbps on one antenna and up to 1.3 Gbps when used with three antennas.

Apple Unsuccessfully Tried to Purchase Exclusive Access to TSMC Chip Production for iOS Devices

Bloomberg reports that Apple and Qualcomm each put forth investment bids topping $1 billion in attempting to secure exclusive access to chip supplies from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), but the bids were declined as TSMC has sought to retain flexibility for its production.

Intel Delaying Mass Availability of Ivy Bridge Processors Until ‘After June’?

Digitimes reports that Intel has apparently begun informing partners that mass availability of its forthcoming Ivy Bridge processors will be delayed until “after June”. Intel is said to be sticking to its initial schedule calling for an April introduction of Ivy Bridge, but only very limited supplies of the chips will be available at that time

Apple Seeks Bankruptcy Court’s Blessing to Sue Kodak over Patents

With Kodak having filed last-minute patent lawsuits against Apple and HTC as it was heading into bankruptcy last month, Bloomberg reports that Apple is looking to assert itself against the pioneering photography company with a new lawsuit alleging infringement of Apple-held patents. While Apple says in its filing with the bankruptcy court overseeing Kodak’s case that it is not required to seek approval for a lawsuit, Apple notes that it is requesting the court’s blessing “out of an abundance of caution”
