Bloomberg briefly reports that Apple and Disney are in talks to bring sports network ESPN's WatchESPN application [ App Store ] to the Apple TV set-top box. ESPN subscribers with AppleTV would gain access to the network’s Internet service on their TV sets.

While there has been much debate about whether Apple will refer to the next-generation iPhone as "iPhone 5", "iPhone 6", simply "iPhone", or something else entirely, Fusible notes that Apple has filed a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) seeking to gain control of the iPhone5.com domain. WIPO authorities are currently assessing compliance of Apple's claim with the agency's regulations, and proceedings are likely to be initiated in the near future

Revised iPad 2 with 32-nm A5 Offers 15-30% Greater Battery Life

Last month, it was discovered that Apple quietly tweaked the 16 GB Wi-Fi iPad 2, equipping the device with a smaller 32-nm die shrink of the A5 system-on-a-chip previously used in the line. The tweaked iPad 2 carries an internal identifier of "iPad2,4", which was first spotted in an iOS 5.1 beta back in November, but at the time it was unclear what the model represented. A similar die shrink of the A5 was found in the new Apple TV, and it appears that Apple made the move in order to test out production of next-generation chip processes in lower-volume devices.

Asymco 's Horace Dediu has released his data on operating profits among the eight top mobile phone vendors for the first quarter of 2012, finding that Apple and Samsung together now hold 99% of the profits with Apple representing the lion's share at 73%. Apple's share was down slightly from 75% in the previous quarter , but Samsung boosted its share from 16% to 26% to shut out nearly all other vendors

Philips was the only entry in the Department of Energy's L Prize for designing a super-efficient light bulb, so I guess it's not really surprising that the company managed to win. But, Philips did manage to meet the DoE's stringent efficient criteria with its new bulb, and the result of their efforts is officially going to be on sale as of this Sunday.

Reuters relays rumors from a South Korean newspaper which revives claims of a larger screen on the next iPhone. Apple has decided on the bigger 4.6-inch display for its next iPhone and started placing orders to its suppliers, the Maeil Business Newspaper said, quoting an unnamed industry source. A 4.6-inch screen, however, would be significantly larger than that has been previously rumored.
